A Unique Sindhi Drama in Dubai
A report By Kamlesh Moorjani
Yet another feather in the cap for Sindhi community in Dubai was added on 16th and 17th November, 2006 by holding a Sindhi Social Comedy as the inaugural play in the newly completely, prestigious and grand, theatre called Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Centre (Centre-point Theatre) located in the Mall of Emirates, which is currently ranked as world's largest mall outside of North America.
Sindhis of Dubai were treated to a yet another original Sindhi comedy play written by the prominent Sindhi writer Vasdev Nirmal and directed by the doyen of Sindhi dramas SP Menghani. The unique Sindhi play was performed to the packed auditorium for 2 days in a row on November 16 and 17 November.
At the invitation of Asha Chand, who deserves kudos for having held some top-quality Sindhi programs in Dubai for past 7 years in a row without a break, the artists of Sindhu Kala Mandir (Mumbai) staged the play that was directed by the none other than the pride of Sindhis Shri S.P. Menghani.
Story revolves around one of the greatest dilemma's today's modern life where parents are left to fend for themselves once the children grow and pursue their education and career, with little if any concern for parents who often sacrifice everything they have for their wards. An irony of today's life is brought before our eyes in a very powerful, yet often entertaining way with many hilarious interludes. Yet, the message is loud and clear.
I feel personally happy and indeed proud of Sindhi Sangat who by bringing this event have once again demonstrated their undying spirit and commitment to spreading awareness of our great Sindhi language, culture and heritage. Being aware of the tremendous effort that goes in organizing Sindhi functions, Sindhi Sangat and Asha Chand deserve all he credit and more for this commendable effort. Organizers have pledged that the proceeds from this event will be utilized towards the promotion of Sindhi Language, Literature and Culture.
